Becoming a filthy rich writer: Comprehensive Copywriting Academy review

TLDR: So good I haven’t even finished it

I’m looking forward to finishing Comprehensive Copywriting Academy (CCA) soon, but I haven’t made it through the whole course yet. Despite this, I’ll still recommend it to you with complete confidence if you’re looking to improve your writing and/or grow your freelance copywriting career.

I haven’t finished it for the same reason that I can also highly recommend it:

Because I started making money from my writing before I even made it the whole way through!

First, you should know something about me…

This isn’t a typical outcome for me when it comes to learning and courses. I’m one of those people who absolutely LOVES learning just for learning's sake and have a big chunk of my budget and long-term savings set aside just to buy more courses. And because I love to just learn, I usually make it the entire way through courses pretty easily.

Personally, it’s the actual doing part that can be a bit tougher.
One of my favorite pastimes (or guilty pleasures?) is “procrasti-learning.”

So, not only did CCA teach me everything I needed to know to become a successful copywriter,
it also taught me a skill even more valuable in my freelance writing and entrepreneur careers: how to take action.

In this post, I’ll also let you in on:

  • Why copywriting is a great career for sensitive people

  • How this course compares to other courses I’ve taken about copywriting

  • Why I chose this one over other copywriting courses & have no regrets

  • How I gained more confidence in my writing (although that’s still an ongoing process)

  • How I earned my first income from my writing

I know it’s there as a valuable resource when I need it and plan to return to it soon.
I’ll update this post if there’s more you should know!

Why I pursued copywriting

Copywriter is one of my picks for BEST careers for sensitive people (keep an eye out for my full list of absolute best HSP careers coming soon!), not only because I believe that many HSPs have the strengths and empathy to be a good copywriter, but also because of the flexibility and lifestyle freedom that being a copywriter can bring. This is a crucial, and often overlooked, aspect of having a fulfilling life as a sensitive person: having a career that allows you to experience a sense of purpose while also granting you the time and space you need to decompress and process.

Sensitive and neurodivergent people already are more prone to burnout, especially when we don’t have this freedom and flexibility to attend to our own needs. REAL needs that help our nervous system function at its best and in turn benefits both ourselves and others.

I know all too well the frustrations and struggles of trying to find your ideal career as an HSP. I at times felt desperate to find a purpose and an income that could support me and my loved ones without contributing to my compounding health difficulties, burnout, and family responsibilities.

What finally helped me? Copywriting.

For me, freelance copywriting hasn’t remained my main source of income but instead acted like a supportive jumping-off point when I felt so unsure, so burnt out, and so scared during a period of transition. It was a way to gradually explore my curiosity about entrepreneurship without quitting everything in the process.

The most important thing that helped me make that jump was the Comprehensive Copywriting Academy (CCA) course by Filthy Rich Writer.

Before I signed up for this course, I was intrigued by a few different copywriting courses and the amazing income and results they highlighted. I was excited about the possibilities and lifestyle that being a copywriter could bring, but was unsure how to exactly make that a reality for myself.

From the first time I can remember someone asking what I wanted to be when I grew up, I knew I wanted to be a writer. But I also felt limited by what other people told me was possible as a writer. I got the message that writing was something to do only as a hobby or as a side gig and instead pursued further education in biology, psychology, and healthcare. But copywriting seemed like an actual way to make actual money from writing without needing to spend a LOT of time, money, and precious energy building a writing career from scratch.

And indeed I’ve fulfilled my dream of being a writer.

I haven’t written a book of my own (yet), but I find so much joy in creating articles like these. In some way, these posts are even more exciting and fulfilling for me to create vs. an entire book, because I’ve been able to write about so many of my varied interests, passions, and causes I believe in over the years, both as a blogger and as a freelance content and copywriter.

What makes CCA different

Before I signed up for CCA, I immersed myself in their podcast while also learning about the basics of copywriting through courses on Udemy (I have free access through my local library - check if that’s the case for you too!). Udemy was especially helpful for learning the basics and some important copywriting-specific lingo. But what was missing (especially if you’re a gold-medal procrasti-learner like me!) was ongoing support and specific actionable steps needed to become a real, successful copywriter.

NOT ONLY did CCA provide this support and these steps to save myself from hours, weeks, and months of trial and error and forcing myself to act, but I had a complete mindset shift in regards to doing/learning and acting.

I realized that I always had a belief that I had to learn and understand everything about something to teach others about it and/or put my learning into practice. And I believed that I definitely couldn’t earn a living from something until I understood the material completely.

While knowing everything, or at least as much as possible to be safe and competent, is crucial in my profession (healthcare) and many other careers, I realized that it isn’t always necessary. In my case, it was something that had been holding me back in everything from pursuing new interests and hobbies to my desires to pursue freelance, blogging, and entrepreneurship. CCA helped change this belief, bringing us to the…

#1 reason to choose CCA: it was such an actionable course that promotes doing and practicing while you’re learning. By the time you’re finished with the course, you have a complete portfolio of work to share with prospective employers or clients (or even enough to share and get a paying job like I did when you’re just halfway through the course!)

When you’re trying to get into a new career field, one of the biggest hurdles to overcome can be your lack of experience, even when you have the time and the talent for the job. This course actually walks you through the world of copywriting so that even without paid experience, you build concrete evidence of your work (your portfolio) and the knowledge you need to get started and become successful.

Something that I didn’t consider when taking this course initially was the impact it would have on the success of my own business. Not just my freelance writing business, but on my success as an entrepreneur. I’ve created 2 other websites in the past, but wasn’t confident in my message or my design or (most of all) my writing. I always loved writing and thrived in writing reports, summaries, and school assignments, but couldn’t get the writing on my websites out of the “cringe” zone. CCA taught and showed me how to create work I was proud of (and allowed me to actually be proud of my work).

AND on top of all that, it was a very reasonable value. I’ve seen and considered a few other copywriting courses that were thousands of dollars. While I don’t have anything against someone charging that much for a course, I wasn’t looking to spend that much at the time.

Especially when everything I really needed to know to be successful would be taught in the CCA course.

How I made my first money as a copywriter

CCA provides plenty of insight into how to get paying clients. What I loved was not only that I got to write for money, but CCA made it so easy to approach and connect with businesses I wanted to write for.

Whether you want to write for a local or global company, CCA gives you the skills and the proof of what you can do. I felt confident enough at least to share my website and writing portfolio with prospective clients. As a sensitive person with a healthy dose of rejection sensitivity, being able to send emails to companies I loved and simply let them know I was available if they needed me took a lot of pressure off me. I didn’t need to make phone calls, attend events, and communicate with people on social media unless I wanted to.

Without that added pressure, I found once again how important (and even easy) it is to act on your dreams. I found my first client after sending just 2 emails!

My focus has shifted towards building my own blog business, so I’m not taking on any additional clients at this time. But I’m incredibly thankful for the skills I learned and the confidence I gained with this course.

In summary, what CCA gave me:

  • comprehensive knowledge of the world of copywriting

  • income from my writing!

  • confidence in my writing

  • confidence in my abilities to become a successful entrepreneur

  • & the knowledge that I CAN actually take action on things that are important to me and my dreams

And I want this for you too!

So whether you want to make a career switch to copywriting or improve the copy on your website or business, CCA is a great choice.
